Written by Hello Womeniya

Raksha Bandhan is a Sanskrit word translating into the bond of protection and is the most awaited day of the year for every brother and sister. Signifying a promise that a brother makes to his sister to protect her from all evil and vices, this day celebrates the pure relationship with the sister tying Rakhi around her brother’s wrist. Siblings meet and celebrate the day with the exchange of gift and wishes, to make it even more special. However, owing to the current lockdown scenario, this year, Rakshbandhan will take a virtual route for many. Missing their siblings this Raksha Bandhan, &TV actors Sarika Bahroliya, Kamna Pathak, Gracy Singh and Shubhangi Atre share how they are celebrating the festival amid lockdown.

TV’s Kamna Pathak who plays the Dabangg Rajesh in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan is very close to her younger sibling. She shares, “Even though my brother is the younger one, he behaves like an elder brother to me. He has brought calmness into my life in so many ways. This lockdown especially was a test for us as I was in Indore with our family and he was in Chandigarh for his theatre play. We longed to meet each other and talk about art, theatre, acting and the new things that we discovered during the lockdown. Unfortunately, this year our Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated virtually as I have returned to Mumbai for the shoot of Happu Ki Ultan Paltan on &TV and he has returned home to Indore. I have specifically asked my mother to make our favourite kheer for him so that both of us don’t miss each other on this special day. He has also sent a special gift for me and has asked me to open on the day. I am very excited to open a gift and can’t wait for the special day!”

Sarika Bahroliya, Gudiya from &TV’s Gudiya Humari Sabhi Pe Bhari shares “I have mixed feelings for this year’s Raksha Bandhan. On the one hand, I found Manmohan bhaiyya on the set of &TV’s Gudiya Humari Sabhi Pe Bhari, who is like a family away from home. But on the other, I will not be able to celebrate the festivity with my two young brothers back home in Gwalior. Every year we visit the temple together and seek blessings of the Almighty and elderly in the house. Post this a scrumptious meal is prepared for us by our mother followed by a special halwa which all three of us devour. This year we plan to celebrate the festival virtually and not traditionally as I am in Mumbai for work. I will be making my mother’s special halwa here while they gorge the same prepared by my mother back in Gwalior.”

Gracy Singh who plays Santoshi Maa in the &TV’sSantoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein shares, “Coming from a big fat Indian family, Raksha Bandhan has always been a grand affair for us siblings. It marked a reunion of sorts us to fly to Delhi and be with each other on this special day. However, owing to the on-going pandemic, this year would be a different celebration for all of us. I have couriered my Rakhi and a special gift to my brother in advance and intend to celebrate the festival virtually. It certainly makes me unhappy to not be there with him on this auspicious occasion, but our bond is exceptional, and we will make it fun when we meet next. My blessings and best wishes are always with him. He is my little one and very close to my heart! Sometimes I look back and wish I could take us back to our childhood!”

Stuck in Mumbai due to the pandemic, Shubhangi Atre who plays Angoori Bhabhi in &TV’s Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai will celebrate Raksha Bandhan along with her sisters in a unique way. She shares, “I have two elder sisters and no brother, so every year all three of us tie Rakhi to our father to protect us from all evils. We also tie a Rakhi on each other’s hand to celebrate the special bond that we share. This year I have couriered my Rakhis to my sisters and my father back in my hometown and will celebrate the festive by connecting virtually. Never knew how a video call would suddenly become so special to all of us and bring us all together. I plan on making some sweets at home on a happy occasion.”
