Women Social entrepreneurship is vital for our future. Collectively we can make a change by closing the gap between men and women in the workforce. Entrepreneurs are those adventurous, daredevils who drive deep into the pressing problems of society and try to find solutions to them, not by leaving the responsibilities in the reins of the government or business, but by trying to change systems as whole and persuading societies to take new initiatives.

In our Social Entrepreneur series today we are introducing you a very dynamic and popular Social Entrepreneur of Delhi Central she is known for her remarkable and outstanding performance in social field particular in Inner Wheel Club who always believes in Women Empowerment and social entrepreneurship. Yes, we are talking about Mrs. Renuka Mehra, President Inner Wheel Club of Delhi Central, District 301, she shared her Service and Charity Project with Hello Womeniya Correspondent Priyanka Yadav.

Brief Introduction about Renuka Mehra:

I am Renuka Mehra President of IWC of Delhi Central since the last 2 years. After my retirement from government service the urge to give back to society by helping the under privileged was very strong and Inner Wheel gave me a platform to fulfil this desire. Delhi Central is a very old & prestigious club of District 301. It came into existence in 1977. We are honoured & proud to have Mrs. Abha Gupta, International Inner Wheel Past President, as our member. She is our friend, philosopher & guide & a very practical down to earth person.

The focus of Delhi Central projects has always been to bring happiness in the lives of children, senior citizens & entire families. Some of our important projects during 2021-22 are given below.

Key Highlights of Service Project:

Senior Citizens Welfare is our signature project. We have been supporting the Old Age Home, Faridabad for more than 16 years. Besides monthly financial assistance, we visit the Home from time to time to spend time with the seniors& try to make them feel special. This year new clothes were given on two occasions, 14kg washing machine was provided, immunity boosters & snack packets were also given. The highlight project of this year was a Mata ki Chowki arranged at their request. Watching them sing& dance with the bhajans was very satisfying. Special langar& Prasad was provided on the occasion.

An NGO ‘Support Our Heroes’, working for the welfare of jawans of the Armed Forces in villages & far flung areas, enabled us to meet the ration needs of those jawans who do not get pension. Our Club supported theration needs of 9 jawans for a full year.

Family Welfare. Happy families, Happy society, Happy world!! Bringing smiles on the faces of people gives you inner joy & peace. We are blessed to be associated with children of NAZ Foundation which we visit from time to time to celebrate special days & festivals with them. They are given special treats & showered with gifts. Special meals are also arranged for children living in orphanages. This year toys & dresses were given to about 500 slum children for Christmas & New Year.

Throughout winter warm sleeping bags, sweaters, mufflers & caps were distributed to those living under flyovers, on pavements, construction workers, guards, maids, vendors, etc. Sitting in the comfort of our homes we have not forgotten our jawans who are protecting the country, serving in difficult terrain & severe weather conditions. About 200 woollen mufflers & caps were sent for them with love & blessings. Special mention is our support to the villagers of Ramgarh Village, Nainital who had lost their homes due to cloud burst. Clothes, shoes, woollens, school uniforms, basic medicines, sanitary napkins, etc. were provided to them.

Assistance to Persons with Disabilities. The focus in this area has been to help the Blind School, Amar Colony by providing them ration, school uniforms, bed sheets, sticks, woolen mufflers & caps, immunity boosters, masks, etc.

Education. Support for education cannot be over emphasized. Three students were enabled to continue their education by paying their yearly fees & cash for purchase of books. We have been supporting the Rajkiya Madhyamik Vidyalaya, Khushkherafor the last several years by distributing books, copies, stationary items, bags, water bottles, etc. to more than 500 students. When we visit the school at the beginning of the academic session the children are very excited to receive these things. Students who excel in academics are given some cash award as incentive.

Environment Protection & Animal Welfare. Animals, particularly dogs, are man’s best friends giving unconditional love. Taking care of stray voiceless animals is our passion. Feeding, medical treatment, sterilization, protecting them from the vagaries of the weather are some areas where we are contributing.

Making the environment green & beautiful is the need of the hour. Plantation in parks, institutions & homes is a continuous activity. We have adopted the MCD Primary School, Kailash Colony to give the children clean & green surroundings, besides giving plants from time to time, the services of a Mali have been provided since the last 3 years.

Health & Hygiene. Free eye check- up camps were organized at 3 places benefitting about 900 people. Operations were done & medicines & spectacles were also provided at these camps. Help was also given to needy persons for heart operation, cataract surgery & medicine for thalassemia. A traction unit for Cervical & Lumbar treatment was given to DCWA, Zamrudpur for the benefit of poor patients who visit this hospital.

Women Empowerment & Vocational Training. International IW Day is celebrated every year on 10th January. This year 10 e-rickshaws were distributed by District 301 to empower 10 women to make them independent& capable of supporting themselves & their families. Our club also contributed in this mega effort. In addition, two sewing machines were given to an institute teaching stitching to needy girls & two women were empowered to support their families by giving them sewing machines.

Inner Wheel Promotion. The Inner Wheel organization in India has been growing from strength to strength. It now has a membership of over 52,000 women. All the clubs try to promote the organization, not only to increase membership, but to create awareness among society about the work being done.
